Ten Commandments Television Special

During a February meeting of religious broadcasters, the Ten Commandments Commission announced that plans are underway for a television special:

During the convention Gonzalez announced that nationally renowned Bible teacher Kay Arthur is working with the Commission to produce a television special on the Ten Commandments and the importance of God-centered morality in America. “We are excited about Kay Arthur's partnership with us,” said Gonzalez. “She has a special ability to communicate God's message to her audience, and that will make this television special very compelling.” (“National Religious Broadcasters, Bible Teacher Kay Arthur, Partnering With Ten Commandments Commission,” undated press release on www.tencommandmentsday.com)

Ten Commandments day is scheduled for May 7, 2006.

Inspired Commentary

It appears that momentum is building toward “Ten Commandments Day.” It also appears that the opportunity to share about the validity of all the Ten Commandments is not going to be lost and many North American Adventists. At a time when Sunday laws were being promoted, Inspiration counseled:

This time, when there is such an effort made to enforce the observance of Sunday, is the very opportunity to present to the world the true Sabbath in contrast to the false. The Lord in His providence is far ahead of us. He has permitted this Sunday question to be pressed to the front, that the Sabbath of the fourth commandment may be presented before the legislative assemblies. Thus the leading men of the nation may have their attention called to the testimony of God's word in favor of the true Sabbath. If it does not convert them, it is a witness to condemn. The Sabbath question is the great testing question for this time. (Ms 16, 1890, p. 21. (Manuscript Releases v. 2, p.197))

Netherlands Institutional Immorality

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands -- The camera focuses on two gay men kissing in a park. Later, a topless woman emerges from the sea and walks onto a crowded beach. For would-be immigrants to the Netherlands, this film is a test of their readiness to participate in the liberal Dutch culture.

If they can't stomach it, no need to apply.

Despite whether they find the film offensive, applicants must buy a copy and watch it if they hope to pass the Netherlands' new entrance examination.

The test -- the first of its kind in the world -- became compulsory Wednesday, and was made available at 138 Dutch embassies. (“Dutch Immigrants Must Watch Racy Film,” Associated Press, Mar. 15, 2006)

Inspired Commentary

The immoral lovers of pleasure have not yet been brought to their knees, perhaps in God’s mercy as angels somewhat restrain the winds of strife. Human perversity continues to become more brazen.

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; (2 Timothy 3:1-4)

Wild Fires in Texas

In the drought parched Texas panhandle, 455,000 acres burned in brush fires in December and January. At the time of this writing, another round of fires, at one point 160 of them in one 24-hour period, had burned over 700,000 acres and cause 7 deaths.

Four people were killed Sunday in a chain-reaction accident involving nine vehicles on a smoky Interstate 40 near Groom, about 40 miles east of Amarillo. Three people died in fires near Borger - two of them trying to escape a grass fire that consumed their home, said fire Capt. Mike Galloway.

“The brush fire overtook their house and yard and got them,” he said. “The flames just spread so fast.”

The fires were fanned by the same storm system that caused deadly tornadoes and storms in the Midwest. Winds of 55 mph combined with low humidity on Sunday to spread the flames. (“Crews Battle Texas Wildfires That Killed 7 ,” The Associated Press, Mar. 13, 2006)

Inspired Commentary

The pace of natural and man-caused disasters seems to be intensifying.

In the last scenes of this earth's history war will rage. There will be pestilence, plague and famine. The waters of the deep will overflow their boundaries. Property and life will be destroyed by fire and flood. We should be preparing for the mansions that Christ has gone to prepare for them that love Him. (Maranatha p. 174)

Catholic TV Network Planned

A meeting of Roman Catholic television professionals is planned for October in Madrid with the goals of providing Catholic programming and setting up a worldwide Catholic television network.

Defining what it is to be Catholic on television and establishing a Catholic television network that will serve as a vehicle for the evangelising movement are the objectives of the Global Catholic Television Convention that will take place on 10-12 October 2006. The Convention will be attended by professionals from Catholic television stations from all over the world, of which there are currently estimated to be around 2000. Inspired Commentary

A reference to the revival of Roman Catholicism is found in Inspiration:

And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast. (Rev. 13:3)
