Bulk MailingThis page provides information for those who may wish to sponsor a bulk mailing of missionary magazines from Project Restore, Inc. We have tried to provide some frequently requested information, but if you don't see what you are looking for, please contact us (form) or phone 877-463-7529. Contents
How much does it cost to bulk mail a missionary magazine? That's a big question. Several factors have to be considered to come to the answer. Please review all the material below. The quick answer is: $.43 (43 cents) per magazine for mailings to USA postal addresses. (Bulk mail is available only to USA postal addresses.) This cost includes the magazine, postage, processing by our mailing service, and free literature to those who send in a request from the offer on the mailed item. The above cost number is current on 09/17/2015 (subject to change at any time) for the 32-page magazines that Project Restore produces with Family Heritage Books. The titles include:
What are the costs for the smaller magazines? Project Restore currently (06/01/2009) has produced six smaller magazines that can also be bulk mailed. They are:
We ask $.43 per flyer to bulk mail either of these flyers. This covers the flyer, postage, processing, and providing the offered book, CD, or magazine to those who request. For the latter flyer, "Are the Dead Really Dead?" free magazine requests will be handled by our partner in that project, Sowers Unlimited, whose address is printed on the flyer. How do I find out how many magazines it will take? Bulk mailings are done primarily to zip codes. Bulk mailings are usually addressed to "postal customer" and a street address (the mailing service has a database with this information) if in a city, or a route number if in a rural area. All you have to do is specify which zip codes you are interested in, and we can look up the numbers of address from which we can calculate the cost of the mailing. Phone (877-463-7529) or contact us (form) and tell us what zip codes you are considering. We will look up the information and give it to you usually broken down into residential addresses, business addresses, and post office boxes within each zip code. Any combination of these categories can be selected (subject to the 200-piece minimum mentioned below). Large colleges and other large institutions sometimes have their own zip codes and can be included or excluded in a mailing. Alternately, most zip codes can be broken down into carrier routes (see under the next question). Multiply the number of addresses to be covered by the current rate (see above) to get a total. As one might expect, the numbers of addresses in a given zip code are changing constantly due to new houses being built and sometimes by zip code realignments. If it becomes longer than 30 days from when numbers of addresses data was requested and the time a mailing is initiated, please ask for updated data. Yes, there is another mailing option, although it requires us to go to more effort to keep track of what has been mailed. Many zip codes are broken down into city routes, rural routes, and post office box "routes". To qualify for a bulk mailing price that I have been quoting, a minimum of 200 pieces is required. If you ask, we can provide data on numbers of addresses on city, rural, and post office box routes within zip codes. The data will look something like this:
The "B" prefix is for post office boxes, the "C" for city routes, and the "R" for rural routes. You could ask a local postmaster for the approximate location of any of the city or other routes. Keep in mind the mailing rules (200 minumum and complete coverage of at least all the business or all the residential addresses within a selected route). Rural routes must be fully covered (both residential and business addresses). How does one pay for a sponsored bulk mailing? Project Restore is not set up to accept credit cards (we see ourselves as more a ministry than a business). We ask that those sponsoring bulk mailings send a check to cover the costs to: Project Restore, Inc., P.O. Box 2000, Locust Dale, VA 22948. When the check is received, the order will be communicated to our bulk mail service. Please include with the check a listing of the zip codes and/or carrier routes to be covered, and the title of the magazine to be mailed. The total amount of the check should be what we have quoted in response to your inquiry. Please include your phone number in case we need to contact you. Project Restore will send you a receipt for your donation. We try to communicate bulk mail orders to our mailing service promptly. It usually takes one to two weeks for the mailing to get into the mail. At certain times of the year (including major holidays like Christmas), it may take a little longer. What follow up options are available? All the 32-page magazines (except as noted below) have an offer on the back cover for a free copy of "Bible Readings for the Home." "Bible Readings" is a 654-page paperback book that has Bible studies on 180 Bible topics. Project Restore has a supply of "Bible Readings" and mails them to requestors at no charge to the requestor or the bulk mail sponsor. Requests may be submitted by the coupon on the back of the magazine and mailing it to Project Restore. We also accept photocopies of the coupon, just a note on plain paper with the required information (name of item requested and requestor name and address), or an e-mail request. "Radiant Living" offers on its back cover a free copy of "The Ministry of Healing." "The Ministry of Healing is a 358-page paperback book. "Whispers of His Love" and "Messengers of Light" offer a copy of "The Great Controversy" on the back cover. We are currently supplying the 1884 edition. "The Power of His Passion" offers only the Discover Bible guides on the back and the toll-free phone number for The Voice of Prophecy to request these. "Born Free" offers on the inside back cover up to three free magazines. The choices include "America Superpower," "A Time for Joy," and "A Love Stronger Than Death." "Shiloh" and "Facing Life's Record" offer on their inside back covers a choice of two magazines from among six pictured (six of 32-page magazines). Project Restore supplies these materials to the requestors at no additional cost to the bulk mail sponsor. Project Restore can supply the names and addresses of those in selected zip codes who request a free book or magazine to the bulk mail sponsors who sponsor mailings to the selected zip codes (this service may not be available for the "Are The Dead Really Dead" flyer). This service is not automatic and must be requested. We may not be able to supply any such names and addresses submitted prior to the mailing sponsor's request for them or longer than one year after the bulk mailing. Bible study enrollment invitation cards can also be inserted into bulk mailings. This is discussed in another question below. Can we have our own return address on the magazines mailed? As the holder of the bulk mail permit, Project Restore's address has to be on the mail piece (the mailing has to orginate at a specific post office) and it is preprinted on the back cover of the magazines in the upper left corner or next to the indicia (Project Restore's bulk mail permit number). It may be possible to have a "local respond to" address printed on a label and put on the back cover of a mailing. Extra costs are involved with this option. Please contact us if you are interested in this and we can provide the cost numbers. Could I have a Bible study enrollment invitation card inserted into a bulk-mailed magazine?
Yes. We have used the Discover Bible course enrollment cards for this purpose. The cards can have the Voice of Prophecy (VOP) return address on them, a local return address that you supply, or Project Restore's address. If the VOP's return address is used, the VOP will send Discover lessons to those who so request (USA and possibly Canadian addresses only). If a sponsor's local return address is printed on the cards, local personnel and a local supply of Bible study lessons should be available for follow up. The Discover lesson sets are available from the Voice of Prophecy. We have also used the Amazing Facts lessons after having modified the first line of the return address to say "Discover / Amazing Facts." The Bible study enrollment cards have a place for the requestor to put on a stamp (required for mailing). Sometimes folks think it preferable to have local follow up but a distant return address for the cards. Project Restore usually has a supply on hand of Discover cards with no preprinted return address. If the option is chosen to have Project Restore's return address on these cards, Project Restore will forward the cards as they come in to the mailing sponsor for local follow up. Project Restore does not currently have staff time available to mail correspondence Bible course lessons. Project Restore also does not have a supply of such lessons.
What is the extra cost for inserting Bible course enrollment cards in a bulk mailing? The Discover course enrollment cards currently (07/11/2007) cost $24.95 per 1000 plus shipping from the VOP. The mailing service charges $.03 per card to print a custom address and $.033 to insert the cards. Can I have a custom design card inserted into a bulk mailing? Probably. We would want to see the card to assure that it was in harmony with Project Restore's mission and we would want to show it to the mailing service personnel to verify insertability. Depending on the characteristics of the custom material, there might be an additional charge. This happens occasionally. (We notice similar handwriting or the same return address on multiple requests.) A problem is that we don't know if the person whose name and address was submitted really wants the book or magazine being requested for them. If the proposed recipient does not want or is not expecting the literature, they can and sometimes do refuse the mailing. When this happens, the postal service sends the item back to Project Restore and we have to pay some additional postage. Therefore we usually send just a magazine (which has a book offer on the back) instead of a book. Our thinking is that the books and magazines are primarily missionary materials and they are targeted to folks who have not already heard the Bible understandings held by Seventh-day Adventists. It seems to us that folks who have already been blessed by an understanding of the last-day Bible truths should be helping financially and physically to distribute these books and magazines. It seems reasonable to us for us to ask Adventists who want to help distribute magazines to help pay the costs of the magazines. Please check this link for magazine costs for personal distribution. Project Restore does not have personnel resources to mail to provided mailing lists. We can ship magazines to you (preferably full boxes) for you to address and mail (extra postage will be required as the bulk mail permit information will not be applicable). If you have a large list, our mailing service may be able to handle this task. Please e-mail the particulars to us for a possible quote (which will also include additional postage). Can Spanish versions of the magazines be bulk mailed? Presently (December 2003) five of the titles have been published in Spanish. They are "America Superpower," "A Time for Joy," "A Love Stronger Than Death," "Radiant Living," and "Peace Above the Storm." The back cover of the Spanish editions (both those from Project Restore and Family Heritage Books) offers the "Discover" Bible course. There is no provision on any of these for bulk mailing (no space for an address, no postal indicia, and no mailing return address). This means that if the magazines were to be bulk mailed, the necessary information would have to be applied by labels. This is possible (for mailings to USA addresses only) at an extra cost. Additionally our stocks of Spanish versions are considerably less than for English versions. This might become an issue depending on the quantity required for the bulk mailing. Please e-mail to let us know of your interest and provide target zip codes and desired magazine title, and we will advise on costs and magazine availability.
